The Dress Up Dame is a blog centered around the belief that life is a party that should be celebrated every day. It’s about having the courage to own your personal style, no matter what your budget is, or what others think. It’s about learning to live your life fearlessly, in a way that is 100% true to you. Every new day is another chance to be your best self and look utterly fabulous while you’re at it.
Who is The Dress Up Dame?
I’m Katie Shuman, otherwise know as the Dress Up Dame. I’m a twenty something girl currently living in Orlando trying to make it as a fashion and lifestyle blogger. My dream is to own my own business online, and I believe that I am getting closer and closer to achieving my dream every day.
I’m a huge lover of vintage fashion and have spent the last few years creating a wardrobe full of vintage and vintage inspired clothing that I now wear every day. I love giving women the confidence to rock their style and not care about what others think.
When I first became interested in vintage fashion as a high school student, I was kind of overwhelmed. I loved all the clothes I saw online, but they were so expensive. I spent years window shopping before actually buying anything. Back then, my only hope of having a vintage style wardrobe was finding vintage pieces and pieces that kind of looked vintage at thrift stores (it was mostly the latter). But I was such a pinup newbie that I didn’t really know what to look for that really suited my style.
As time passed, I slowly found more and more pieces that I could style for a vintage look. But then, there was the problem of actually finding the confidence to wear those pieces! When I first started wearing vintage styles in public, it was a little scary at first. I was so self-conscious, and it took me a while to really feel comfortable wearing the clothes that I love today.
Fast forward a few years later, and not only do I have a wardrobe that I can be proud of, but I am also much more confident in my style. It took a little time, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come since my style-conscious high school years. I’ve slowly become pretty awesome at thrifting, and I attribute that to one of the main ways I’ve been able to grow my wardrobe so much.
My main goal in writing this blog is to inspire you to pursue your style, no matter how much it may differ from the trends or so called ‘fashion rules’. It’s also to show you that you don’t need a lot of money to create your dream wardrobe! Every day of your life should be treated like a party, so why not celebrate it in style?
